MityCAM-B2521 Firmware

This page documents the firmware revisions of the MityCAM-B2521 camera firmware. Currently, the same firmware is loaded on all cameras with the B2521 sensor, regardless of back-end interface (cameralink vs. gigabit ethernet).

In general, Critical Link does not recommend upgrading firmware unless there is a specific feature that has been added or performance issue resolved that you require. See MityCAM Firmware Upgrade Procedure (P-10218) for detailed instructions for firmware upgrades. Failure to install compatible firmware or to properly follow the installation procedure may leave the camera in an unusable state and may possibly damage the unit. If you unsure or have any questions about the upgrade, please contact your Critical Link representative prior to starting the upgrade procedure.

Change Log

Please see updated user manuals for information about newly added features.
The following toolchain was used to build the firmware.

  • FPGA built with Quartus 14.1
  • ARM software build with DS-5 tools provided with Quartus 14.1

Added Features

  • External trigger support for Global and Rolling Shutter mode via MityViewer Control has been added. [7422]
  • An ability to configure network addresses via the USB interface has been added. [7624]
  • For rolling shutter internal triggering, pseudo one port readout mode support. [7753]
  • A web based interface has been added to allow easier firmware upgrades. [6877]
  • A white balance calibration command has been added. Currently this command is only supported via the camera link interface. [7682]

Bugs Fixed

  • An artifact when Horizontal Binning is enabled was removed. [7551]
  • A 20 count bias while outputting uncalibrated data was removed. [7552]
  • Previously, the first frame captured while running in global shutter mode was over exposed. This has been corrected. [7576]
  • There was a problem configuring / enabling the expose output strobe from the MityViewer tool. This has been resolved. [7623]
  • Under certain binning conditions, the requested frame rates were not being honored. This has been resolved. [7650]
  • The Camera / Mityviewer could hang on remaining frames if a fixed transfer of non-multiples of 10 or odd number of frames were requested. This has been resolved. [7717]
  • The high gain data in global shutter mode was not being captured properly and was saturated leading to a reduction in dynamic range. This has been resolved. [7791]
  • During global shutter operation, at maximum frame rates the reset frame subtraction can get out of synchronization, resulting in fixed pattern noise in the output image. This has been resolved. [7393]
  • MityViewer test pattern selection interface now works properly. [7680]

Known Issues

  • There is no mechanism to perform white balance calibration from the MityViewer interface. [7808]

Change Log

  • FPGA built with Quartus 14.1
  • ARM software build with DS-5 tools provided with Quartus 14.1

Added Features

  • Added global shutter support. Validated with Camera Link.
  • Horizontal and vertical binning supported (x1,x2,x4,x8 independently in either dimension). Validated with Rolling Shutter in camera link. [7022].
  • Added noise reduction option to remove "salt-and-pepper" artifacts that can be seen in Global Shutter mode.
  • Added support for square root compression.
  • Added support for configuring the sensor SCLK rate.
  • Added command to support "demo" mode where the square root 16-bit to 12-bit compression / LUT and noise reduction can be applied to only the top half of the sensor.
  • External Triggering is supported. Validated with Camera Link interface. [7422]

Bugs Fixed

  • Improved phase alignment / margin on camera link output serializers that was resulting in occasional transmission errors on a small percentage of hardware units identified during production test. [7182]
  • Incorporated bootloader and kernel patches to account for PLL reset errata from Altera on ARM processors. [7182].

Known Issues

  • When using the Ethernet or USB interface, capturing global shutter images can result in artifacts. [7598].
  • When using the Ethernet of USB interface, the first image captured with global shutter is exposed longer than requested. [7576]
  • When using horizontal binning in global shutter mode, a 16 pixel artifact may be noted on the left side bottom half of the image. [7551].
  • There is no easy way to reconfigure the network addresses for the USB RNDIS port (Static, 10.1.47.2) or the Gigabit Ethernet port (dhcp). [7536].
  • Need support for retrieving current firmware status and for uploading new RPM or RUN file for updating firmware and a form for updating network addresses.

40-000058-3 [2014-11-05]

The 40-000058-3 is the baseline release of the CIS2521 camera firmware. It provides rolling shutter capability.
