Eval Board will not boot
Added by Craig Meyers over 13 years ago
Purchased 3 kits 80-000268RI-1 with SoM L138-FI-225-RC. One kit does not boot when power is applied. Green LED does light to indicate power. Monitoring serial port in hyperterminal same as we did for the other two kits that boot fine. For this board that does not boot we get nothing displayed in the console.
What do you recommend we do to bring this board to life?

Hi Craig,
Can you please monitor the console (115200 baud, no flow control) and, while holding the boot button down, press the reset button? You should see "BOOTME" appear on the screen. Can you please confirm?
Also, can you please provide the serial number of the board that is not responding? Thanks.

Did as instructed but did not see BOOTME on console.
Board serial # is 110251.

Hi Craig,
Other than trying to re-seat the module and the serial port cables in their respective connectors, I don't have any other suggestions. If the board is not presenting the "BOOTME" description, then there must be hardware failure. I'm fairly certain that kits are tested as a pair (module+baseboard) prior to ship. I'm not certain what may have failed given your description of the problem, and we'd need the unit back to troubleshoot much further.
You should contact our Production group via email at production@criticallink.com for further instructions / support / and or RMA number. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

I tried re-seating the module several times with no success. Got same results with another kit's cables so I think cables are ok. Checked continuity of serial connector pins from socket on front thru holes to back of board and they all checked out. On our very first boot attempt we got startup info on our console but it hung prior to getting linux boot prompt. All subsequent boot attempts have been unsuccesful - nothing on ths console. Possible open via on the module or baseboard maybe caused by shipping vibration that would not have been found during pre-shipment testing? We will be following thru with the Production group. Thanks.
