Mounting USB Flash Memory (mitydspl138)

I have the mitydspl138, baseboard, and the standard Critical Link Linux kernel. When I plug a usb flash drive into the type A slot, I get a log message:
usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using ohci and address 18
However, it does not automount the drive to any location that I can tell, and I also cannot locate a block device associated with it that I can mount. Am I missing something simple? The flash drive is formatted FAT and is readable on a PC. I have also interposed a USB hub with the same negative result (but I do get additional log messages associated with the hub):
hub 1-1:1.0: USB hub found
hub 1-1:1.0: 4 ports detected
usb 1-1.1: new full speed USB device using ohci and address 20

Hi Fred,
Most likely the USB Mass Storage support option is not selected in the config for the kernel you're using.
Once this is enabled the USB flash drive should be automatically mounted to a directory in /media/ when it's plugged in.

Hi
I am also trying to get a USB disk to mount. Is it possible the USB drive is not auto mounted, but can be mounted manually? What would be the usb device name under /dev?

Hi Mike,
I don't think that is the case; I tried to manually mount as well, but there was no driver in /dev either. Greg sent me a new kernel with USB mass storage support built in, and that worked fine (although I don't recall if it auto mounted or I had to manually mount it). Most likely you will need to update your kernel to get the USB mass storage support; I'd talk to the guys at Critical Link to see if their latest standard release has that option built in...

Yup you were right. After I re-built the kernel with USB Mass Storage support it auto mounted just fine. Thanks for chiming in.
