5CSX-H6-42A Dev.Kit does not boot from SD

Added by Benjamin Fischer about 7 years ago

Hi guys,

this struggles me for a few days now. I got the mentioned Dev-Kit, read a lot in Rocketboards and this Wiki, and so I wanted to try it out by myself.
So I installed the virtual-machine, compiled my Preloader and U-Boot to check out if the basics are working. However, nothing appears on the serial terminal. OK, so I tried out the Pre-Build Image from your Wiki. Same, no boot messages. Here are my configurations:
BSEL: 0X5 -> 3.3 V SD/MMC flash memory with internal transceiver
MSEL: 0x0
CLSEL: 0x0
Putty: 115200, 8, 1, No Flow Control and no Parity. (Tried it also on my Windows7 system)

I create the SD image via the Script make_fs_image.sh or the make_sd_image from your wiki (I did it once by my own, but then I used the script, much faster :) ). There are now errors after the script (I went through the output).
After that: dd if=xy.img of=/dev/mmcblk0
fdisk l shows:
------------------------
Disk /dev/mmcblk0: 3.7 GiB, 3980394496 bytes, 7774208 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: dos
Disk identifier: 0x4bcf6a22

Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type

/dev/mmcblk0p2 638976 1687551 1048576 512M 83 Linux
/dev/mmcblk0p3 2048 4095 2048 1M a2 unknown

Quartus/Qsys: 14.1

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Benjamin

On other devices my image is working... It seems that I got a newer module (noticed some small differences on the PCB). ID: 5CSXFC6C6U23I7N

Hi Benjamin,

I am forwarding this on to our support team, but it sounds like there may be an issue with the DevKit card or module. If I understand, you are able to use the same SD card on different units and some units work and this one does not? Correct?

Any chance you could pull the serial numbers for the module(s) that are working and this one? The serial number is on the back of the module on the sticker with the Data Matrix code. It's the second number on the list. If you have a smart phone and can scan the data matrix code that would be the best as it has all of our factory data encoded in it.

Thanks. Today we tested two kits against each other (we switched the DevKit and modules). The results were, that the development boards were OK, but one Cyclone V SOC module (this was mine) is not booting. The orange LED is permanently ON and no boot messages on the serial terminal are shown.

My device:
My dev-kit has the following ID:
15002560
80-000578RC-9
15-04-01
REV.B

MitySOM CycloneV: 5CSXFC6C6U23I7N
5CSX-H6-42A-RJ
15006622
80-000642RJ-4
15-06-24

I will ask my colleges if the can give me their numbers.

Best regards
Ben

Ben,

Thank you for providing the device specific details.

I wanted to let you know that on Friday 1/13/2017 I sent you an e-mail requesting additional company specific information, that I wasn't sure you would want to post on the forum, to better assist with this issue and RMA if necessary.

Thank you,

Alex
