AM62A Edge-AI POE Camera

Overview

Critical Link has developed an application ready Carrier Board targeting the MitySOM-AM62A processor.

Features:

  • Dual Power Options
    • Power Over Ethernet (device)
    • USB-C power
    • Unit will default to POE power if both are provided.
  • Video Streaming
    • Micro-HDMI connector to 1080P HD
    • Active H.264 encode and RSTP / network streaming via Gigabit Ethernet
  • Camera Interface
    • Up to x4 lanes of MIPI CSI
    • Raspberry Pi Zero 22 pin camera interface
      • IMX219 Based Raspberry Pi II camera
  • Image Signal Processing
    • Leverages Full ISP / tuning stack for TI AM62Ax processor*
      • Active Debayering with edge enhancement
      • HDR color mapping / scaling
      • warp transforms (e.g., rotation, Lens distortion correction) and resizing
      • White Balance
  • AM62A7 C7x256v DSP w/ MMA accelerated Deep Learning and Inferencing engine
    • Supports object detection, facial recognition, segmentation

*Requires NDA with TI to access ISP tuning / firmware compiler

A block diagram of the carrier card is shown below:

The system is designed to run embedded linux based on TI's AM62A processor / Edge AI SDK and is capable of running all of the EDGE-AI example programs that are described on TI's Edge AI Demos Page from the AM62x Processor Linux Academy website.

The filesystem is stored on a 64 GB eMMC located on the MitySOM-AM62A. The eMMC may be updated using SSH / SCP, or using the USB-C interface via a Snagboot connection. Instructions for using snagboot can be found here.

Typical Power Consumption

Power measurements have been made using a USB-C power monitor. Ethernet and HDMI are connected and operating, but no power over ethernet is being delivered.

Scenario Observed power Draw
Linux Booted. System IDLE but running TI's Edge AI menu application 3.45 W max
System Running TI's classification demo 4.5W max

The power draw will depend heavily on the DSP load.

Mechanical Information

Critical link has prepared A STEP model of the carrier board, MitySOM-AM62A, and camera board as shown in the image below. The model can be downloaded at this link.

Critical Link has designed a very simple enclosure to demonstrate a concept arrangement of the MitySOM-AM62A camera board set into a bullet style enclosure as shown in the pictures below. If a customer is interested in the mechanical model data for the enclosure please contact Critical Link at .
